Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine: Ceasefire Should always be permanent and sustainable

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine welcomed the efforts in the United Nations Security Council towards assuming its responsibilities in protecting civilians and the Palestinian people, who have been subjected to the genocide committed by Israel deliberately for more than 171 days. 

It affirmed that adopting an immediate ceasefire resolution is a step in the right direction to completely and sustainably halt the aggression, withdraw Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, facilitate aid delivery, and ensure the safe return of forcibly displaced individuals to their homes and communities despite the destruction and pain. 

The Ministry urged member states of the Security Council to uphold their legal and historical responsibilities to implement the resolution immediately. It emphasized the importance of intensifying international efforts, including within the Security Council, to achieve a permanent and sustainable ceasefire extending beyond the holy month of Ramadan, securing the entry of international aid into Gaza to prevent further disaster and famine, immediately releasing prisoners and detainees, and preventing forced displacement. 

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry praised the initiative of elected countries in the Security Council, particularly Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Switzerland, for presenting a resolution calling for an end to the aggression and ceasefire, as well as commended consistent and coherent positions of states with international law in this regard. The inclusion of Russia, France, and China in this international consensus is crucial. 

The Ministry affirmed that international consensus on ceasing aggression against the Palestinian people, facilitating aid, and preventing forced displacement must be accompanied by practical steps and consequences for Israel, the illegitimate occupying authority, to halt the genocide war and other war crimes and crimes against humanity. The successful adoption of the resolution today is a step in the right direction, but it requires further development in terms of the role of the Security Council in fulfilling its mandate to maintain international peace and security.

Imethibitisha kuwa kupitisha azimio la kusitisha mapigano mara moja ni hatua katika mwelekeo sahihi wa kusitisha kabisa na kwa kudumu uchokozi, kuondoa vikosi vya uvamizi vya Israel kutoka Gaza, kurahisisha utoaji wa misaada, na kuhakikisha kurudi kwa salama kwa watu waliolazimishwa kuhama kwa nguvu kwenye makazi yao na jamii zao licha ya uharibifu na maumivu. 

Wizara imezitaka nchi wanachama wa Baraza la Usalama kutekeleza majukumu yao ya kisheria na ya kihistoria kutekeleza azimio hilo mara moja. Ilisisitiza umuhimu wa kuimarisha juhudi za kimataifa, ikiwa ni pamoja na ndani ya Baraza la Usalama, kufikia kusitisha mapigano endelevu na thabiti yanayoendelea zaidi katika mwezi huu mtukufu wa Ramadhani, kuhakikisha kuingizwa kwa misaada ya kimataifa Gaza ili kuzuia maafa na njaa zaidi, kuachiliwa mara moja kwa wafungwa na watu waliozuiliwa, na kuzuia kuhamishwa kwa nguvu. 

Wizara ya Mambo ya Nje ya Palestina imepongeza jitihada za nchi zilizochaguliwa katika Baraza la Usalama, haswa Algeria, Ekuador, Guyana, Japani, Malta, Msumbiji, Jamhuri ya Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, na Uswisi, kwa kutoa azimio linaloitisha kusitisha uchokozi na mapigano, pamoja na kusifu msimamo thabiti na wenye mkakati wa nchi kulingana na sheria ya kimataifa katika suala hili. Kuingizwa kwa Urusi, Ufaransa, na China katika makubaliano haya ya kimataifa ni muhimu. 

Wizara imethibitisha kuwa makubaliano ya kimataifa ya kusitisha uchokozi dhidi ya watu wa Palestina, kurahisisha misaada, na kuzuia kuhamishwa kwa nguvu lazima yaambatane na hatua za vitendo na matokeo kwa Israel, mamlaka ya uvamizi isiyo halali, ili kusitisha vita vya mauaji na uhalifu mwingine wa vita na uhalifu dhidi ya binadamu. 

Ufanisi wa kupitisha azimio leo ni hatua katika mwelekeo sahihi, lakini inahitaji maendeleo zaidi katika jukumu la Baraza la Usalama katika kutimiza jukumu lake la kuhifadhi amani na usalama wa kimataifa.
