1. Event Highlights (Summary)

The Embassy of the State of Palestine led the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, attended by representatives of the United Nations, members of the Solidarity Committee, the Palestinian community in Tanzania, religious leaders, civil society, and invited guests.

The Charge d’Affaires / Acting Ambassador, Mr. Salim Siam, underscored that since the adoption of UN Resolution 181 in 1947, the rights of the Palestinian people have continuously been violated. He highlighted the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where more than 70,000 people have been killed, thousands injured, and over 2 million displaced.

He further noted the worsening situation in the West Bank, where more than 1,000 people have been killed since 2023, over 40,000 forcibly displaced, and more than 10,000 detained under harsh conditions—accompanied by a surge in settler violence targeting Palestinian civilians.

Mr. Siam condemned the ongoing occupation, systematic oppression, destruction of infrastructure, and human rights violations, labelling them as grave breaches of international law and humanitarian principles.

Speaking on behalf of the entire UN system, Mr. Shigeki Komatsubara, UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator (ad interim), stated that two years of conflict have resulted in mass casualties, hunger, and large-scale destruction in Gaza. He emphasized the urgent need to uphold international law and advance efforts toward a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders.

In concluding the ceremony, Mr. Siam stressed:

“There can be no genuine peace in the Middle East without justice for the Palestinian people.”

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Mr. Alhadi Mussa Salum, Chairperson of the Reconciliation and Peace Community Committee (JMAAT), along with many other partners, institutions, and members of the public.
