SPAIN’S IONE BELARRA: ISRAEL MUST END ‘GENOCIDE’ OF PALESTINIANS IN GAZA

In an interview with Al Jazeera IONE BELARRA says world leaders are failing to act against Israel’s onslaught.

Spanish minister has called on the international community to sanction Israel, which she accused of a “planned genocide” of Palestinians in Gaza.

Ione Belarra, the Spanish minister for social rights and leader of Podemos party, also condemned world leaders for an apparent double standard – saying while human rights abuses in Ukraine have been decried, there is a “deafening silence” on the victims of Israeli bombardment.

“The Israeli state must end this planned genocide against the Palestine people,” Belarra said on Wednesday.

“Why can we give lessons in human rights in other conflicts and not here when the world is watching in horror? The deaths of thousands of children, the mothers desperately shouting because they are witnessing the killing of their children.

“There is a deafening silence of so many countries and so many political leaders who could do something. I speak about what I know well, which is the European Union. It seems the display of hypocrisy, which the European Commission is showing, is unacceptable.”

Spain and other nations should break off diplomatic relations with Israel in protest against its assault on Gaza, she insisted.

Katika mahojiano na Al Jazeera, mwanasiasa IONE BELARRA anasema viongozi wa dunia wanashindwa kuchukua hatua dhidi ya uvamizi wa Israel.

Waziri huyo wa haki za kijamii na kiongozi wa chama cha Podemos nchini Hispania ameitaka jumuiya ya kimataifa kuiwekea vikwazo Israel, ambayo anailaumu kwa "mauaji yaliyopangwa" ya Wapalestina huko Gaza.

Aidha, amewalaumu viongozi wa dunia kwa kushindwa kuangalia mzani wa pande mbili kwani - wakati unyanyasaji wa haki za binadamu nchini Ukraine unalaaniwa, kuna ukimya kikubwa kuhusu waathirika wa mashambulizi ya Israeli.

"Serikali ya Israel lazima isimamishe haya mauaji yaliyopangwa dhidi ya watu wa Palestina," Belarra alisema Jumatano.

"Kwa nini tunaweza kutoa mafundisho juu ya haki za binadamu katika migogoro mingine na sio hapa wakati dunia inatazama matukio ya kutisha yanayofanyika? Vifo vya maelfu ya watoto, akina mama wakipiga kelele kwa huzuni wakishuhudia  watoto wao wakiuawa.

"Kuna kimya kikubwa cha nchi nyingi na viongozi wengi wa kisiasa ambao wangeweza kufanya kitu. Ninasema kile ninachojua vizuri, Jumuiya ya Ulaya inaonyesha unafiki, tume ya Ulaya inaonyesha jambo ambalo halikubaliki

Hispania na nchi nyingine zinapaswa kuvunja uhusiano wa kidiplomasia na Israel kuonyesha kupinga uonevu dhidi ya shambulio lake huko Gaza, alisisitiza.
